STC Eligibility Just Expanded for Commercial Solar Projects

Until now, only systems up to 100kW could earn Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Under the new guidelines, from 1 October 2026, systems up to 1MW are expected to qualify for the same upfront STC treatment as household solar, drastically shifting the financial profile of commercial installations.

Do I qualify for the new commercial solar rebate?

Eligibility is expected to cover systems up to 1MW commissioned from 1 October 2026, but the implementing regulations haven't been finalised yet. A feasibility study confirms where your project sits as details are released.

Do you supply the solar equipment, or just install it?

Both — solar equipment supply (inverters, racking and panels suited to commercial and industrial sites) as well as design, installation and connection.

Can I add battery storage to a commercial solar system?

Yes — a common add-on for backup power or better control over grid draw. It runs under separate incentive arrangements to the solar PV changes on this page, covered in your feasibility study.

What does a feasibility study for solar involve?

A site visit or remote assessment covering capacity, shading, current and projected energy use, indicative STC eligibility, and a payback estimate — before you commit to anything.

Does this apply to farms and agricultural sheds?

Yes — agricultural operations with large shed roofs are one of the segments this change was specifically designed for.
